I (Chris) had a great conversation with actor / composer Scott Evan Davis. We talked about many things from imposter syndrome, acting, music, Broadway, sacrifices, he told some great stories to a whole lot more!
Scott Evan Davis is a New York City-based composer/lyricist and social media influencer. He has 226.5k followers on Tik Tok as the Prince of Snarkness, (a sarcastic coffee drinking persona) as well as 52.6k on Instagram. After working as an actor around the country, he began composing in 2010, and since then has gained widespread recognition in the worlds of musical theatre and cabaret. Scott has performed concerts and song cycles of his music at NYC venues such as Birdland, Duplex, and Don’t Tell Mama’s as well as in Washington D.C. at the Kennedy Center, and in Los Angeles. He has performed concerts internationally in London, Dublin, and Australia.
Scott’s debut album, ‘Cautiously Optimistic’, features Broadway talent such as Liz Callaway, Faith Prince, Daniel Reichard, Nikki Renee Daniels as well as others from the world of Broadway and cabaret. In a review of Cautiously Optimistic in the Huffington Post, David Finkle listed Scott among five “must see and must know” emerging writers. His second album ‘NEXT’, released in 2016, features performers such as Karen Mason, Robert Cuccioli, Joshua Colley, Derek Klena and Lisa Howard. Both albums are released on the Soniclandscapes label, and are available on iTunes.
His most recent pop single ‘Falling Everyday’ was released this month. It was written about Scott’s struggles with Imposter Syndrome, and was created live on Tik Tok. His musical ‘Powerful Day’, which was written with and for autistic children at PS94 on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, won the Musical Theatre International’s prestigious Courage in Theatre Award. The students were selected to attend the Junior Theatre Festival, and won the Spirit of Theatre Award as well as an award for Best Ensemble. Scott’s work with the students of PS94 was featured in a segment on CBS News as well as a documentary called Spectrum of Hope.
Currently Scott is developing his first full -length musical called ‘INDIGO’, with Sing Out Louise Productions. Sing Out Louise Productions has helped to bring shows such as ALLEGIANCE, THE CHER SHOW, and HADESTOWN to Broadway. The show is about an autistic non- verbal girl who teaches everyone around her how to truly communicate. He has also recently signed a commission to write the songs for a new musical called ‘NEXT BIG HIT’ directed by Justin Guarini (American idol) and is the current musical director for EPIC PLAYERS, which is a neuro diverse professional theatre company in New York. He will be doing performances at Lincoln Center and Joes Pub in the next few months. Scott’s awards include the 2017 MAC Award for Best Song, the 2012 BroadwayWorld Award for Best Original Song for “If We Say Goodbye,” and the 2016 ASCAP Award for his song “If the World Only Knew” for its social message. That song is performed globally and has become an anthem for the autistic community.
