Every now and then, a conversation on The Chris & Sandy Show leaves a lasting impression—one that reminds us of why we started this journey in the first place. Our interview with Mallory James Mahoney, star of Disney Channel’s Bunk’d, did exactly that.
The interview we did with Mallory was on July 20th, 2021

At just a young age, Mallory’s resume is filled with incredible roles and industry experience. But what truly stood out wasn’t the list of accomplishments—it was her heart, her humility, and her grounded perspective on life, purpose, and passion.
Here are a few powerful lessons we took away from our conversation with Mallory—and why they matter for anyone chasing a dream.
1. Passion Often Starts with a Spark—Not a Plan
Mallory’s journey into acting began with something simple: a box set of Shirley Temple movies. As a little girl, she looked at the screen and saw herself—not literally, but in spirit. That moment sparked something inside her that never left.
📌 Lesson: Don’t underestimate the power of a small spark. Whether it’s a movie, a moment, or a mentor, inspiration has the power to shift a life. If your child lights up about something, lean into that curiosity—it could be the start of something big.
2. Supportive Parents Make All the Difference
Mallory’s parents played a huge role in her journey—her mom traveling with her to auditions and premieres, her dad sacrificing time at home to keep the family going, and both of them believing in her even when it meant uncertainty. Her family didn’t just support her—they stood with her.
📌 Lesson: In a world that often tells dreamers to play it safe, having a support system that says, “Go for it, we’ve got you,” is priceless. Whether you’re a parent, spouse, or friend—be the wind beneath someone’s wings.
3. The Grind Behind the Glamour Is Real
From COVID testing three times a week on set, to losing out on roles for reasons outside of her control, Mallory reminded us that acting isn’t all red carpets and applause. It’s auditions, rejections, long days, and sacrifices—including filming after her dad suffered a serious brain injury.
📌 Lesson: Whatever your dream is—whether it’s acting, business, ministry, or something else—understand that setbacks are part of the story. Endurance matters. Faith matters. Keep showing up.
4. Authenticity Connects, On and Off Screen
Mallory doesn’t act to be famous—she acts because she loves it. Her joy when she talks about her roles, the people she works with, and her passion for environmental advocacy is contagious. She’s proof that authenticity will always shine brighter than celebrity.
📌 Lesson: Purpose-driven living beats performance-driven hustle. When you operate from a place of truth and passion, people notice. And you don’t need a camera to make a difference.
5. You Don’t Need to Be Perfect to Inspire Others
From an embarrassing water spill on set to moments of doubt when her dad was recovering, Mallory shared the messy and human side of her journey. She’s learned to laugh, to lean on her team, and to trust the process.
📌 Lesson: You don’t have to have it all together to inspire someone. Vulnerability builds bridges. Your story—as it is—can be the very thing that gives someone else hope.
Final Thoughts: A Young Star with a Timeless Message
Mallory James Mahoney may be young, but her story carries wisdom well beyond her years. She reminded us that talent might open the door, but character and community keep you in the room. She reminded us that setbacks aren’t the end of the road—they’re often the detour to something greater. And she reminded us that no matter your age, background, or starting point, you can shine right where you are.
