We had a great conversation with Janelle Arthur on The Chris & Sandy Show. We talked about so many things from American Idol as she made it top 5 on season 12, family, sacrifices, she told some really great stories to a whole lot more!
Janelle Arthur was born and raised in East Tennessee in the small town of Oliver Springs.
● She began singing and performing in the heart of the Smoky Mountains by age 8.
● She performed thousands of shows in the area before moving to Nashville in 2010.
● Janelle was a Top 5 American Idol Finalist (Season 12), rising to the top out of 120k competitors.
● She not only had international exposure on American Idol, but also appeared on shows including TODAY, Live! With Kelly and Michael, and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
● Janelle has opened for country superstars Craig Morgan, Rascal Flatts, and has performed alongside and/or collaborated with The Henningson’s, The Band Perry, and Vince Gill.
● Her lifelong dream was to perform on the world famous Grand Ole Opry Stage and she has fulfilled that dream 22 times.
● “Hand Me Downs,” produced by Jen Stegall and Janelle, was co-written with Emily Lynch.
● Her mother’s heartbeat can be heard throughout the song.
● “Hand Me Downs” brings Janelle’s story with Dolly full circle-from portraying her as a child in Paradise Road, to singing a duet with her as an adult.
● When Dolly heard “Hand Me Downs,” she was so moved that she volunteered to sing on the song saying, “Us East Tennessee girls gotta stick together.”
● “Hand Me Downs “ is a nostalgic anthem about family, heirlooms, things you inherit from your family, and taking pride in your heritage.
● This song has been one of “Nashville’s best kept secrets” since it was written a few years ago.
● Janelle brought in family and friends to sing in the choir portion of the song. ● The musicians on the record did not know they were playing on what would become a duet with Dolly Parton.
