We had a great conversation with Mallory Johnson on The Chris & Sandy Show. We talked about so many things from family, music, passion, sacrifices and told some stories. She even told us about her best friend Tenille Arts who we interviewed in the past and some independent artists. Click the play button to listen to the podcast!
Raised on icons like Dolly, Merle and Loretta, it’s no surprise that Mallory wanted to pursue country music. However, hailing from Newfoundland and Labrador, another genre of music is near and dear to her heart — celtic music. Mallory started her professional career performing with the 6-time musicnl award winning and ecma nominated celtic family band “the cormiers”.
In May of 2018, Mallory released her debut self-titled ep (produced by Kershaw) which earned her the 2019 ecma for country recording of the year and 3 musicnl nominations for country artist, rising star and female artist of the year. The ep includes songs written by hit-makers Gordie Sampson, Hillary Lindsey, Troy Verges, and Steve McEwan and is “…packed with rollicking guitar solos, heartfelt storytelling, and catchy melodies—all supporting Johnson’s voice, a controlled, fierce, and empathetic instrument at the heart of each track” – Melody Lau (Socan magazine).
Following an audition for the war thriller “into the wilderness,” Mallory was asked to both act and write music for the feature film. Directed by Richard De Witt and starring tony award-winning Shuler Hensley, Christopher-Lawson Palmer, and Kelly Shipe, the film is aiming to be released in 2020.
